- I-77 north/south — heaviest in Huntersville/Cornelius area
- I-85 northeast — heavy near University City
- I-485 outer belt — moderate, varies by segment
- Brookshire Freeway — northwest to Uptown
- Independence Boulevard — east to Uptown
- South Boulevard — south to Uptown (LYNX alternative)
Light rail (LYNX Blue Line)
The LYNX Blue Line is Charlotte's light rail. It runs from University City through Uptown to I-485 in the south. It is the best commute alternative if you live and work near it.
- University City → Uptown: 25 min on LYNX
- South End → Uptown: 5-8 min on LYNX
- NoDa → Uptown: 8-10 min on LYNX
- Day pass: $4.40
- Monthly pass: $88
- Park and ride available at most stations
Rush hour times
Charlotte rush hour is moderate. Plan around these times.
- Morning rush: 7:00-9:00 AM
- Evening rush: 4:30-6:30 PM
- Worst: I-77 south (morning), I-77 north (evening)
- Friday: lighter traffic in summer
- Plan 15-20 extra min during rush
