Charlotte Employment Outlook

Charlotte’s employment-opportunities.info/charlotte-employment/">economy and employment outlook is far rosier than many of its neighboring cities.  The key to Charlotte’s success is the fact that there has been much new growth and investment from businesses like Bank of America, Lowe’s, Wachovia (although now owned by Wells Fargo, it still holds a headquarters in the city) and steel giant Nucor.  Each of these companies has placed their headquarters inside of the city limits of Charlotte.  But it’s not just these Fortune 500 giants that have helped keep the local economy afloat.  There are multiple auto sports attractions and raceways, namely Lowe’s Motor Speedway which hosts three major NASCAR events throughout the year.  The NASCAR Hall of Fame, which is slated to open in May 2010, is also being constructed here at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

The speedway hosts such events as the Bank of America 500 Race, Coca Cola 600 Race and NASCAR Sprint All Star Race.  There are also numerous other raceways, speedways, and drag strips in and around the greater Charlotte area.  There is enough here for anyone interested in auto sports or anyone looking for a job in the sector to be interested in for an entire lifetime.  The city’s tourism economy, much of which revolves around these NASCAR events, has certainly been able to help keep the rest of the employment sectors from sinking during the recession.

Given the huge amount of tourism that Charlotte attracts, it’s little wonder that its most successful employment sectors are the tourism, hospitality, restaurant, and services industry.  But other heavyweight industries that provide employment in the Charlotte area include the financial sector, education and education-related services, and transportation sectors.  Charlotte was built on the banking industry, but it has since reformed into a conglomerate of other sectors.

Since 2007, Charlotte has lost about 10% of its jobs.  While this may seem like a huge number, it’s really quite small in comparison to the rest of the country.  Charlotte has a very unique and rich history and many people are looking to be a part of it.  The city combines southern style with a cosmopolitan atmosphere.  Many luxury retailers have stores in Charlotte as they have found quite a pool of consumers of luxury goods here.  The city is a unique mix of old and new, and the employment opportunities reflect this as well.  Jobs data is now coming out to support the notion that Charlotte’s employment sectors are beginning to show a real turn around.

A really great website that I came across that deals with employment in Charlotte exclusively is Charlottejobs.com.  This website tracks employment for the region by sector and even offers tips and shows employment opportunities that are currently available.  It’s a really useful website created by North Carolina locals.

The number of transplants to Charlotte has been quite high in recent years, and these transplants have also brought with them the skills and knowledge to build new industries and create new connections between old ones.  As long as Charlotte can remain a diverse, healthy place that attracts small startups and Fortune 500 companies alike, it will be able to weather the storms of economic recessions now and throughout the future.
